Deeply poignant, this double-barrelled Bennett celebrates the wry gallows humour of the great chronicler of English ordinariness and delusion.
Our little company has braved three edgy plays in a row. Now it’s time for something else, something lighter and I can’t think of anything more wholesome and Hovis-like than an Alan Bennett comedy, and even better, a Double Barrel Bennett.
It’s double joy for us performing these two cracking pieces and we hope double joy for you being immersed in the gloriously ordinary worlds of Lesley, Miss Prothero and Arthur Dodsworth. Mr B is such a keen observer of our frailties and triumphs so we are well aware, as we inhabit these roles, that we are only sending ourselves up, and of course, celebrating our wonderful, ordinary yet extraordinary humanity.
